Two members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly have announced their resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC). They cited persistent internal wrangling and leadership issues within the party.
The lawmakers involved are Shamsudeen Hassan Basko. He represents Talata-Mafara North Constituency. The other lawmaker is Nura Dahiru. He represents Birnin-Magaji Constituency. Both conveyed their decisions in separate letters dated December 3.
Reasons for Defection
In his letter, Hon. Basko attributed his departure to ongoing internal crises and poor leadership. He also highlighted the marginalisation of members at both state and local levels. Basko emphasized that persistent crises, internal divisions, poor leadership, and member sidelining drove his decision to leave the APC. He added that remaining in the party no longer aligned with his political convictions. It also did not serve the best interests of his constituents.
Similarly, Hon. Dahiru explained his exit was necessary. He sought to pursue ideals and causes that better reflect the aspirations of the people he represents. Dahiru affirmed that leaving the APC would enable him to pursue causes better representing his constituents’ aspirations.
Following his resignation, Hon. Dahiru officially declared his defection. He joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara State.
