Midfielder Tochukwu Nnadi has described his first-ever senior call-up to Nigeria’s Super Eagles as the realization of a lifelong dream. The selection comes ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament, marking a significant milestone in the Imo State-born player’s career.
Nnadi revealed he learned about his inclusion through social media. “A friend texted me on Instagram to congratulate me,” he shared with NFF TV. “I screamed – I’m going to AFCON! My family was equally thrilled. Since childhood, I’ve dreamed of representing Nigeria.”
Journey to National Honors
The 23-year-old admitted his surprise at the timing of the call-up. Having previously featured for Nigeria’s U-20 team, Nnadi expressed gratitude for the senior national team opportunity. “I wasn’t expecting it so soon,” he acknowledged, “but I’m here now and extremely happy.”
Campos Academy Foundations
Nnadi credits his formative years at Campos Football Academy for his development. “The academy taught me more than football,” he reflected. “We worked daily on discipline and balancing sports with education. Those lessons shaped me both on and off the pitch.”
Embracing National Duty
The midfielder understands the weight of representing Nigeria’s passionate football nation. Inspired by icons like Cristiano Ronaldo, Nnadi stated his clear mission: “Wearing green-and-white carries responsibility. I’m here to demonstrate my quality, fight for the team, and help Nigeria win AFCON.”
European Career Development
Nnadi began his European career at Bulgarian club Botev Plovdiv. He made 42 league appearances before transferring to Belgian side Zulte Waregem in January 2024. Since joining, he’s evolved into a dependable box-to-box midfielder. The player featured in 34 league matches last season, scoring one goal.
