Abubakar Bawa has resigned as Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Taraba State. He cited the ongoing national leadership crisis and multiple court cases as key reasons for his departure.
In an official statement, Bawa confirmed: “I’ve resigned as a PDP member and notified my ward chairman.” His resignation letter dated November 17, 2025, explained that recent party developments forced his decision.
Reasons Behind the Resignation
Bawa described prolonged internal conflicts at PDP’s national level as damaging. He stated these issues created “institutional uncertainty” within the party structure nationwide. The chairman emphasized this hindered his ability to support the party’s direction.
“This decision follows deep reflection on recent developments. The lingering crisis and litigations gravely affect our unity and integrity,” Bawa wrote.
Legacy and Future Plans
Bawa highlighted his “unwavering commitment” during his PDP service. He expressed gratitude for members’ trust during his leadership. The former chairman noted his tenure focused on democratic principles prioritizing citizens’ welfare.
However, he concluded that resignation became essential to maintain his political integrity. Bawa stated he’ll now evaluate future political options carefully. He thanked local ward members for their consistent support and cooperation.
The departing chairman ended with assurances of continued respect. His exit adds to PDP’s challenges during ongoing national turbulence.
