Taraba Governor Agbu Kefas Set to Defect from PDP to APC on November 19
Taraba State’s political landscape faces a major transformation. Governor Agbu Kefas will reportedly leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC). Party insiders confirm this switch will be formalized on November 19.
An APC National Working Committee source revealed preparations are complete. Governor Kefas will be received at a mega rally in Jalingo. APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda will lead party leaders in welcoming him.
“Everything is set for the governor’s arrival into APC,” the source stated. The defection was discussed during Wednesday’s leadership meeting at the APC secretariat in Abuja. Yilwatda reportedly engineered this strategic move behind the scenes.
Governor Kefas fueled speculation during recent stakeholder talks. Addressing APC and PDP members in Jalingo, he acknowledged circulating rumors. “When a rumour persists, it suggests something positive,” Kefas remarked.
He added: “I’m working to make it reality. By God’s grace, you’ll hear from me soon after next week.” His words confirmed widespread expectations of an impending party switch.
Kefas urged political unity beyond party lines. “Regardless of party affiliation, we’ll ensure justice. Let’s forgive and move Taraba forward together.”
Key APC figures in Taraba already support the move. Leaders convened at Danladi Baido’s Jalingo residence last weekend. Attendees included the state chairman, APC Youth Forum, elders, and representatives from all 16 LGAs.
This meeting reaffirmed loyalty and mobilized backing for Kefas. Stakeholders called the defection “timely and strategic.” They believe it will strengthen Taraba’s federal relevance. Potential benefits cited include infrastructure expansion, economic growth, and enhanced human capital.
