The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Taraba State has announced a new date for Governor Agbu Kefas’s formal reception. The event, marking his official entry into the party, will now take place in January.
Speaking with journalists on Sunday, State APC Chairman Ibrahim El-Suldi confirmed the postponement. He noted that Governor Kefas had already been admitted into the party at his ward level. However, the public reception will not be held this December as initially planned.
The ceremony was first scheduled for November. Governor Kefas requested a delay. He considered a political celebration insensitive so soon after the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State. This was a key factor in the decision.
El-Suldi provided another reason for the new timeline. “December is already jam-packed with activities,” he explained. “We do not wish to burden people across the state. Families are preparing for Christmas and the New Year holidays.”
The APC chairman further confirmed the governor’s complete membership. “The governor officially wrote to his ward executives,” El-Suldi stated. “They have duly received him. As far as party records show, Governor Kefas is now a bona fide member of the APC.”
El-Suldi also disclosed other significant defections. Fifteen members of the Taraba State House of Assembly have joined the ruling party. Additionally, the entire state executive council has moved to the APC. “What you are witnessing is a natural realignment,” he remarked. “Key stakeholders around the governor have followed him. More are expected to join soon. There is absolutely no cause for alarm.”
El-Suldi assured the public that the party leadership agreed unanimously on the new date. “We have met as a party,” he said. “We concluded that January is the most suitable time for the event. Once a specific date is finalized, we will communicate it to the public without delay.”
