The Taraba State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has postponed Governor Agbu Kefas’ formal reception ceremony. The event, marking his official entry into the party, will now take place in January.
Speaking with journalists on Sunday, state APC Chairman, Ibrahim El-Suldi, confirmed the delay. He stated that Governor Kefas had already been admitted into the party at his ward level. However, the planned official reception would no longer proceed this month as scheduled.
The ceremony was initially slated for November 19 (likely 2023, though the original text cited 2025, which appears to be a typo). Governor Kefas reportedly requested the postponement himself. He deemed it insensitive to hold a political celebration shortly after schoolgirls were abducted in Kebbi State.
El-Suldi further explained the decision. “December is already jam-packed with activities,” he said. “We don’t want to inconvenience people across the state when families are preparing for Christmas and the New Year.”
The APC chairman reiterated that the governor had completed all necessary membership requirements. “The governor wrote to his ward executives, and they have duly received him,” El-Suldi confirmed. “As far as party records show, Governor Kefas is now a bona fide member of the APC.”
He also revealed a significant political realignment in the state. Fifteen members of the Taraba State House of Assembly have joined the ruling party. Furthermore, the entire state executive council has followed suit.
“What you are seeing is a natural realignment,” El-Suldi added. “Key stakeholders around the governor have joined him, and more are coming. There is absolutely no cause for alarm.”
El-Suldi assured the public that the party leadership had unanimously agreed on the new timing. “We have met as a party and agreed that January is the best time,” he stated. “Once a specific date is set, we will communicate it to the public.”
