The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Taraba State has announced a significant development concerning its newest high-profile member. The formal reception ceremony for Governor Agbu Kefas, who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), will now take place in January.
Reception Postponed to January
Taraba State APC Chairman, Ibrahim El-Suldi, confirmed this update while speaking with journalists on Sunday. He clarified that Governor Kefas had already been formally admitted into the party at the ward level. However, the official reception, initially scheduled for November 19, was postponed at the Governor’s request.
Governor Kefas reportedly deemed it insensitive to hold a political celebration shortly after the unfortunate abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State. El-Suldi further explained the delay, stating, “December is already jam-packed with activities. We don’t want to drag people across the state when families are preparing for Christmas and the New Year festivities.”
Governor Kefas Now a Bona Fide APC Member
The APC chairman reiterated that the Governor has fulfilled all necessary membership requirements. “The governor submitted a letter to his ward executives, and they have duly received him,” El-Suldi stated. He emphasized, “As far as party records are concerned, Governor Kefas is now a bona fide member of the APC.”
El-Suldi also disclosed that Governor Kefas’s move has triggered a wider political realignment within the state. He confirmed that 15 members of the Taraba State House of Assembly, along with the entire State Executive Council, have also joined the ruling party.
“What you are seeing is a natural realignment. Key stakeholders around the governor have joined him, and more are coming. There is absolutely no cause for alarm,” he added, allaying any concerns about the shift.
The party leadership has unanimously agreed that January presents a more suitable time for the grand reception. “We have met as a party and decided that January is the best time,” El-Suldi affirmed. He assured the public that a specific date would be communicated once finalized by the party.
