Former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, has distanced himself from alleged northern plots. These plots reportedly aim to force President Bola Tinubu out of office. Tambuwal insisted he is not part of such conspiracies. However, he remains committed to removing the All Progressives Congress (APC) democratically. This, he stated, will happen in 2027.
Tambuwal made these remarks during an appearance on Channels Television. He also spoke about his recent encounter with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). He believes this encounter was politically motivated.
Commitment to Democratic Change
“I am fully involved in a process,” Tambuwal stated. “This process will democratically and lawfully remove this government from office.” He added, “By God’s grace, we will chase this government out of power. We will do this with the help of God and Nigerians.”
The former governor is now a key opposition figure. He belongs to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Tambuwal claimed the ruling party is uneasy. They are concerned about his activities and growing influence.
Allegations of Political Motivation
Tambuwal was questioned about his ongoing EFCC case. He strongly suggested political motives were at play. When asked directly if the trial was politically induced, he simply replied, “Yes.” He further elaborated on the pressure. “Those who are concerned are worried about my activities,” he stated.
Reports suggested some northern leaders were plotting against the Tinubu administration. Tambuwal addressed these reports. He clarified he is not part of any sectional conspiracy. “I am not among some people in the North,” he said. “They are coming together to say that Tinubu must go.”
He did admit widespread dissatisfaction exists. “It is true that Nigerians are not happy,” he noted. Tambuwal’s focus is on a national coalition. This coalition aims for a change in leadership. He stressed that any transition must be constitutional and democratic.
“I am involved in the national coalition,” he affirmed. “There should be a change of guard in Aso Rock. This must happen through a constitutional democratic process on May 29.”
