The Nigerian Super Eagles have addressed social media criticism regarding their accommodation in Morocco, clarifying that their hotel choice prioritizes convenience and preparation for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup African play-off against Gabon.
Team Officials Explain Accommodation Choice
Team media officer Promise Efoghe responded to online concerns about the Rive Hotel accommodation. “What trended earlier was the view of an old building visible from a window,” Efoghe stated. “We selected Rive specifically for its proximity to both our training facility and the stadium in Rabat.”
Squad Assembly Underway
The Eagles’ camp is steadily filling up with 14 players already present in Rabat. The arrived contingent includes Calvin Bassey, Alex Iwobi, Samuel Chukwueze, Tolu Arokodare, Olakunle Olusegun, Wilfred Ndidi, Moses Simon, William Troost-Ekong, Benjamin Frederick, Chidozie Awaziem, Amas Obasogie, Stanley Nwabali, Semi Ajayi, and Ademola Lookman. Seven additional players are expected to join the squad shortly.
Hotel Selection Process
While CAF typically handles accommodation during tournaments, national associations like the Nigeria Football Federation can request alternative arrangements when necessary. This accommodation issue echoes previous concerns raised by Nigerian teams, including Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade during the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
High-Stakes Gabon Showdown
The November 13 match against Gabon will determine which team advances to the next qualification round. The winner faces either DR Congo or Cameroon, with a victory there securing a spot in the intercontinental playoffs. This brings Nigeria closer to potential qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
