Former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido has expressed frustration after being unable to secure nomination forms for the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) national chairmanship position. The founding PDP member emphasized his unwavering commitment to democratic principles and restoring Nigeria’s main opposition party to its former prominence.
Lamido stated his decision to contest stemmed from the urgent need to reposition the PDP for future electoral challenges. Despite appearing at the PDP National Headquarters on Monday, the former Foreign Affairs Minister was denied access to the nomination documents.
Addressing journalists about the development, Lamido confirmed his preparedness for the November 15-16 elective National Convention in Ibadan. The veteran politician declared his readiness to pursue legal remedies if prevented from formally entering the chairmanship race.
This setback comes after PDP governors endorsed Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, former Minister of Special Duties, as their consensus chairmanship candidate. Lamido, Turaki, and former Kano and Kaduna governors Ibrahim Shekarau and Ahmed Makarfi had previously signaled interest in the position.
