The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Sokoto State faces a deepening internal crisis. A major faction within the party has suspended three senior officials. They cite alleged misconduct and actions that threaten the party’s integrity and structure.
Those suspended include Yusuf Alkali, the State Secretary. Abba Galadima, the Assistant State Financial Secretary (Central Zone), was also suspended. The State Publicity Secretary, Murtala Ali, completed the list.
This decision followed the faction’s investigation. They found established links between these officials and anti-party actions. These included breaches of trust. Such conduct, they said, could threaten the party’s unity.
“These measures are essential,” a statement from the committee read. They aim to safeguard the stability and progress of the ADC in Sokoto State. “Conduct capable of jeopardizing the unity of the party will not be condoned,” the statement warned.
The resolution received strong endorsement. Twenty-five out of the 33 members of the State Executive Council approved it. Deputy Chairperson Bello Illela signed on their behalf.
Leadership Reaffirmed Amidst Dispute
In a show of strength, the faction reaffirmed Bello Keegan as the authentic Chairman of the Sokoto ADC. They issued a stern warning to Mr. Umar Mohammed. He was told to stop “parading himself” as the state party leader.
The faction described Mohammed’s activities as “fraudulent, illegal, and intended to mislead the public.” They accused him of attempting to destabilize the party for personal gain. “The Sokoto ADC has only one recognized chairman, and that is Bello Keegan,” the statement insisted.
Reaffirming Keegan’s leadership and suspending the three officials are crucial steps, the committee stated. They believe these actions will restore order. They also aim to maintain organizational discipline within the party. “The vote of confidence in Mr. Keegan was necessary to maintain unity, stability, and discipline,” the statement added.
