Nigerian music star Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as Simi, has voiced her profound affection for Nigeria while addressing the country’s challenges. The singer emphasized that Nigerians possess an irreplaceable energy and identity found nowhere else in the world.
Simi described how Nigerian heritage flows naturally within her, creating an unparalleled sense of belonging. She highlighted how the distinctive Nigerian spirit shines globally, noting that even international actors avoid mimicking Nigerian accents in films due to its powerful uniqueness.
The artist expressed concern over the growing “japa” phenomenon – Nigerians emigrating for better prospects abroad. She believes this exodus would diminish if Nigeria offered improved living conditions and opportunities for its citizens.
Her vision for national improvement stems from deep patriotism. Simi stated, “My wish for a better Nigeria comes from genuine love and pride in my homeland.”
“My favourite thing about Nigeria is the spirit of Nigerians. You can’t replicate it. Nobody else can be Nigerian except Nigerians. Even when Hollywood fakes African accents, they avoid Nigerian tones.”
“Being Nigerian feels completely natural – like home. That’s precisely why I want our country better. If it were, nobody would want to leave.”
