Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi recently drew significant attention. He offered a powerful prayer. This prayer targeted individuals contributing to Nigeria’s escalating insecurity crises.
Gumi shared this earnest prayer on his Facebook page. He called upon Allah to punish those behind the nation’s violence and bloodshed. His prayer stated:
“Oh Allah! Expose all individuals instigating or supporting Nigeria’s insecurity and violence. This includes foreign or local actors. Those who benefit, are pleased by the killings, or failed to intervene. May your divine power expose them. Pour your wrath upon them. Punish them immediately, sparing the innocent. Amen.”

The cleric’s prayer sparked diverse public responses. Many voiced their support. However, others questioned his commitment to resolving the country’s security issues.

A commenter stated that anyone backing Nigeria’s enemies, including bandits, would not survive the year. Sheikh Gumi replied, “Amen to all Nigeria’s adversaries, bandits included. Please also say Amen to my prayer.”
Sheikh Gumi maintains a contentious stance on banditry. He has often defended bandit groups. He also negotiates their surrender. This approach draws both criticism and commendation.
His recent prayer reignited discussions. People are debating spiritual intervention versus direct action. Both are seen as ways to tackle insecurity.
Supporters praise his vocal efforts. Critics emphasize that only concrete steps can resolve the crisis. These include arrests and legal proceedings.
