Nigerian Senator Ned Nwoko has addressed a viral video circulating online that falsely identified a young woman as his new wife. The Delta North representative dismissed the claims, labeling them unfounded rumors with no basis in truth.
Nwoko clarified that the woman featured in the footage visited him as part of an official delegation from the Peace Ambassadors Initiative. Ambassador Dr Adejo Sule led the group during what was a standard diplomatic engagement.
The senator explained that photographs and videos captured during the meeting were routine documentation of public events. Such recordings occur during all official visits and public appearances.
Nwoko expressed disappointment at how social media distorts innocent interactions. He criticized certain blogs and individuals for twisting ordinary encounters into sensational marriage claims for attention.
In a formal statement, Nwoko warned that spreading such false narratives violates Nigeria’s Cybercrime Act of 2015. Legal action may follow against anyone continuing to propagate the misinformation.
The senator explicitly denied having any personal relationship with the woman in the video. He urged the public to disregard the misleading stories circulating online.
“A video recently brought to my attention shows a visitor with her Peace Ambassadors team,” Nwoko stated. “False claims now circulate attempting to link me with her.”
He described social media’s tendency to distort reality: “It’s unfortunate how moments get twisted for clout. Taking photos with delegation members is standard protocol when hosting guests.”
“People frequently request pictures during public events, which I accommodate,” Nwoko continued. “Exploiting these courtesies to create false narratives is malicious.”
The senator concluded firmly: “I categorically deny any personal connection with this visitor. Those spreading this fabrication must stop immediately or face legal consequences under the Cybercrime Act.”
