Senator Abba Moro, representing Benue South and serving as Senate Minority Leader, has reaffirmed his steadfast commitment to the Peoples Democratic Party. He categorically dismissed circulating rumours about potential defection to another political party.
Moro made this declaration during Wednesday’s consultative meeting with the PDP National Working Committee. The session was led by chairman Kabiru Turaki amid ongoing party realignments.
Despite recent PDP defections nationwide, Moro emphasized his unwavering loyalty. He stated that committed members would resist all political pressures to abandon the party.
“Many of us aren’t desperate politicians,” Moro assured the NWC. “We joined PDP as our political home, not merely as an electoral platform. Our commitment transcends the 2027 elections.”
The senator described PDP as Nigeria’s sole credible platform for democratic governance. He urged the newly elected NWC to collaborate with party leaders nationwide. Such cooperation would strengthen cohesion and unity.
“With the national convention concluded, your NWC faces a herculean task,” Moro added. “You must salvage the party’s position through strategic leadership.”
In response, Kabiru Turaki pledged the NWC’s dedication to repositioning PDP. He framed the 2027 elections as a national priority beyond defection politics.
“Our mission extends beyond party interests,” Turaki stated. “We aim to protect Nigeria’s democracy from anti-democratic forces. The coming elections concern all Nigerians.”
Turaki commended Moro and fellow PDP senators as “party pillars.” He praised their principled stance during the political turbulence.
Adolphus Wabara, PDP Board of Trustees chairman, endorsed the Turaki-led NWC. He cited visible party restructuring efforts since their Ibadan convention victory.
“The new leadership is rebuilding confidence nationwide,” Wabara observed. “Party structures are strengthening daily. We must prioritize reconciliation and collective rebuilding now.”
