A core group of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members in the Rivers State House of Assembly has reaffirmed their unwavering loyalty. They have vowed to continue legislative duties. This commitment stands firm despite many colleagues defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
These minority lawmakers passed a resolution. They formally adopted the auditorium at the Legislature Quarters as the House’s lawful chamber. This move signals their dedication to maintaining order and continuity amid the ongoing political upheaval.
PDP Faction Elects New Leadership
Last Friday, the 10 remaining PDP lawmakers in the Rivers State House of Assembly moved to strengthen their faction. They achieved this by selecting officers for key leadership positions.
New officials took the oath of office. They assumed roles such as Minority Leader, Deputy Majority Leader, Minority Whip, and Deputy Minority Whip.
These legislative activities and leadership appointments follow the mass defections. The defections left the PDP with fewer members in the assembly. Despite this setback, the loyal PDP lawmakers have vowed to maintain a functioning legislative process.
