Remo Stars have officially dismissed rumours claiming head coach Daniel Ogunmodede resigned from the club. The Nigeria Premier Football League champions confirmed the 45-year-old remains fully in charge with their full support.
Speculation about Ogunmodede’s departure emerged earlier this week. Several media outlets reported he left after disagreements with club management. His recent absence from matches fueled these rumours.
Coaching Course Explains Absence
Ogunmodede hasn’t been on the sidelines since Remo Stars’ 5-1 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns. He also missed subsequent matches against Kwara United. The club clarified he’s attending a CAF B coaching course in Abuja.
Official Club Statement
In their Wednesday statement, Remo Stars affirmed: “Daniel Ogunmodede remains integral to our technical crew. He’s currently upgrading his credentials through a CAF B course in Abuja. This demonstrates his commitment to professional growth.”
Balancing National Team Duties
The club confirmed Ogunmodede will continue assisting Super Eagles manager Éric Chelle. His national team commitments previously caused him to miss over ten league matches. This occurred during Remo Stars’ historic NPFL title-winning season.
“He’ll continue supporting Nigeria’s World Cup and AFCON preparations. We believe this demands collective national support,” the statement added.
Contract Extension and Achievements
Ogunmodede signed a three-year extension in August 2024, keeping him at Remo Stars until 2027. He guided the team to consecutive second-place finishes before delivering their maiden NPFL title last season.
