President Bola Tinubu has formally welcomed Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri to the All Progressives Congress (APC). He described the governor’s defection as a symbol of unity and progress.
The ceremonial reception occurred on Monday in Yenagoa, Bayelsa’s capital. Vice President Kashim Shettima represented President Tinubu at the event.
Tinubu commended Diri’s leadership and developmental vision. He stated the governor’s move reflects a shared commitment to national advancement.
“The APC unites those who understand progress requires collective effort,” Tinubu declared. “Governor Diri, your journey reflects your people’s aspirations. True politics focuses on development, not opposition. We take pride in your wise decision.”
The President characterized Diri’s switch as patriotic statesmanship. He emphasized national unity surpasses partisan interests in importance.
Tinubu highlighted Diri’s infrastructure accomplishments in Bayelsa. He praised the governor’s peaceful leadership in a historically tense region.
“You governed with quiet dignity while driving development,” Tinubu noted. “Your administration connected remote communities through roads and bridges. You brought light to darkness. This exemplifies empathetic governance.”
The President applauded Diri’s people-focused projects and stabilizing influence. He welcomed the governor into the APC as a “homecoming.”
Tinubu concluded: “You join a unified political family. We support you as the champion you’ve always been.”
