Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has offered his perspective on why some artists fail. He attributes this failure to disloyalty. These artists, he noted, often depart from major record labels. He specifically mentioned labels owned by Olamide, Don Jazzy, Davido, and other top music stars.
Portable also validated a common assertion within the music industry. He affirmed that prominent artists like Davido, Olamide, Wizkid, and Burna Boy do not intentionally hinder the progress of other musicians.
Explaining his stance, Portable highlighted a perceived trend. He observed that artists leaving labels like Olamide’s, Don Jazzy’s, or Davido’s often struggle to maintain relevance. For him, the root cause is a lack of loyalty.
Addressing his public persona, Portable asserted his music career’s resilience. He stated that public opinion about his character would not impede his success. He emphasized his dedication to his craft. Portable explained, “I do what I like. This is how I make my money.”
Despite his confidence, Portable expressed a feeling of being undervalued. He claimed he does not receive adequate recognition for his industry contributions. He made a controversial claim about Olamide’s career. Portable suggested Olamide’s international recognition grew mainly after their collaboration on the hit single “Zazu Zeh.” Furthermore, Portable levelled an accusation against fellow artist Zlatan Ibile. He alleged that Zlatan Ibile obstructed his opportunities to connect with Davido. This, he claimed, prevented a potential musical collaboration.
