The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State has distanced itself from a controversial group. This group recently held a rally. It urged Governor Caleb Mutfwang to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Hon. Felix Choji, the state Publicity Secretary, issued a statement on Tuesday. He dismissed the group as “faceless.” Its leader is Hon. Christopher Danjem. Choji affirmed the group has no PDP affiliation. It is both unknown and unregistered.
Allegations of Sponsorship
Choji alleged the group is sponsored by the APC. Their aim is to sow confusion. They seek to destabilize the state’s ruling party.
He stated, “The group is following a script.” Its sponsors are clearly from the APC. They are trying to distract the PDP. They also seek to derail Governor Mutfwang’s good work in Plateau State.
The PDP labelled the group’s press conference as “deliberate misinformation.” This event took place on December 1. It was held at Secretariat Junction, Jos.
Party’s Official Stance
Choji formally responded to the group’s “erroneous claims.” He noted their self-proclaimed title: “coalition of Peoples Democratic Party support groups.” Hon. Christopher Danjem, their coordinator, met with “selected friends and associates.”
The PDP reiterated its position. Danjem’s group is not recognized. It holds no official status within party records.
The party’s database does not list this group. It is not a registered support platform. It is also not an affiliated support group. Danjem’s claims are therefore unfounded.
Choji emphasized that the group’s activities do not reflect the PDP’s official stance. He urged the public to disregard such claims. “Engage the party through fact-based findings,” he advised. “Avoid relying on fabricated and deceitful outings.”
The party further clarified. Statements from Danjem are his personal views. They represent only him and his associates.
“These statements, opinions, and coordinated activities are solely theirs,” the party affirmed. They “do not necessarily reflect true, official views.” They are also not “endorsements of the Peoples Democratic Party, Plateau State Chapter.”
Commitment to Stability and Governance
The PDP reassured the public of its stability. The party remains focused. It is committed to its mandate and core ideological principles.
“The Plateau State PDP remains resolute,” the statement declared. It upholds its party ideology. This centers on democracy and national cohesion. It also embraces social justice and good governance. The party promised to consistently share accurate information.
