The women’s wing of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State recently staged a public protest. On Tuesday, they rallied against the alleged plan of Governor Caleb Mutfwang to defect to their party.
Elizabeth Samson Yerse led the demonstration. She is the convener of the rally and a prominent APC women’s leader in the state. Yerse vowed strong resistance to any political attempts to force Governor Mutfwang upon them.
The protesting women adorned themselves in APC colours. They chanted solidarity songs and carried numerous placards. Some messages read: “Vindictive Mutfwang, No Room in APC,” “APC is our Promised Land,” and “We don’t want Pharaoh Mutfwang.”
Yerse declared the APC women would “shed their blood.” This, she said, would demonstrate their firm disapproval of Mutfwang joining the party.
Yerse also serves as the state coordinator for ‘Tinubu Torch Bearers’. She accused certain individuals within the APC of engaging in anti-party activities. These individuals, she alleged, were paving the way for Mutfwang to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and join the APC.
Yerse articulated their clear message: “If a woman says no, you must respect her choice. Do not force yourself on her.”
She likened the APC to a woman with dignity, values, and principles. Yerse insisted that no amount of pressure or manipulation would make them accept someone. She noted that Mutfwang consistently undermines their party and its members.
“It is on record that the governor once said he would never join the APC,” Yerse highlighted. “He even called the party an evil political party. He truly called the APC an evil political party.”
Why APC Women Reject Mutfwang’s Entry
“Let it be clearly understood,” Yerse emphasized. “We, the All Progressives Congress (APC), especially the women’s wing, do not want Governor Caleb Mutfwang to join our party.”
She continued, “APC is not a political haven for leaders who failed to stabilize their own party. APC is not a dumping ground for politicians fleeing crises they created.”
“We state this with full responsibility: Governor Caleb Mutfwang, we do not want you in the APC. Not now, not later, not in any political realignment.”
Yerse elaborated on their rejection. “Your leadership style is incompatible with our party’s disciplined and forward-looking direction. You cannot disengage Plateau State’s youth, tomorrow’s leaders, who were employed by former Governor Senator Simon Bako Lalong. Then you expect acceptance into our party.”
“The APC women’s wing rejects your entry into our beloved party,” she concluded. “We do not want division, indiscipline, or sabotage of our National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yiltwada’s efforts. He has worked hard to make this great party the envy of every right-minded Nigerian.”
