Former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has strongly denied allegations that he granted an interview criticizing the African Democratic Congress (ADC) opposition coalition.
Previous reports suggested Obi stated the ADC was struggling. These claims cited unresolved issues within the party regarding zoning and the rotation of key political offices. The purported remarks were attributed to a YouTube interview published by ‘Advocacy for Good Governance’ on Wednesday.
However, on Friday, Peter Obi’s Spokesman, Ibrahim Umar, issued a statement. He dismissed the claims from the alleged interview as “false and malicious.”
Umar, speaking for the Peter Obi Media Office (POMO), stated: “POMO is again compelled to refute false and malicious claims. These claims concern an interview purportedly granted by Mr. Peter Obi. We categorically deny any news suggesting he granted such an interview. Furthermore, he made no remarks against the African Democratic Congress (ADC).”
Obi, in fact, holds great confidence in the ADC. He respects the leadership of former Senate President David Mark. The idea that he made statements ‘against’ the ADC contradicts his public record.
His actions and statements consistently emphasize collaboration. He seeks partnerships with groups dedicated to strengthening Nigeria’s democracy. Obi’s recent engagements consistently stress the need for unity. This unity is crucial for tackling poor governance and economic challenges. He is not focused on attacking or criticizing the ADC.
Umar urged the public to disregard these reports. He specifically appealed to the ADC leadership. He asked them to view the publications as “fake news.” He identified them as the work of “political hirelings.” These individuals aim to distort facts. They seek to distract the opposition. Their goal is to prevent focus on ending bad governance.
