The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has formally acknowledged notification from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) regarding the suspension of four senior officials, including National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu.
Other suspended officers include National Organising Secretary Umar Bature, National Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN), and Deputy National Legal Adviser Okechukwu Osuoha. The suspensions resulted from an emergency National Working Committee (NWC) meeting addressing alleged anti-party conduct.
The PDP’s communication cited specific constitutional provisions justifying the disciplinary action. Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum stated the suspensions align with Sections 57(3), 58(1) and 59(1) of the party’s amended 2017 constitution.
“The NWC suspends the following national officers: Senator Samuel Anyanwu, Umar Bature, Kamaldeen Ajibade, and Okechukwu Osuoha,” the official notice declared. “These suspensions take immediate effect for one month.”
During their suspension period, the officials must cease all official functions. The PDP has referred all four cases to its National Disciplinary Committee for further investigation.
Deputy National Secretary Setonji Koshoedo will serve as Acting National Secretary. The party has also directed its National Director of Legal Services and National Director of Organisation to oversee their respective departments.
The suspension letter emphasized that the disciplinary measures followed repeated anti-party activities despite prior warnings. The PDP leadership confirmed it had formally notified INEC about these significant organizational changes.
