The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) State Chairmen Forum has endorsed Umar Damagum as the party’s sole national chairman. They dismissed a breakaway faction led by Abdulrahman Mohammed as unconstitutional and illegitimate.
After meeting on November 6, all 29 state chairmen issued a communique. They confirmed Damagum’s position aligns with the PDP Constitution (2017, as amended). The forum completely dissociated from the rival faction.
The chairmen stated: “We categorically affirm Umar Damagun remains PDP’s only recognized national chairman. We reject the purported Abdulrahman leadership entirely.”
They praised collaborative efforts between key party organs. These include the National Working Committee, PDP Governors’ Forum, and Board of Trustees. Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed and Senator Adolphus Wabara received special mention.
Calls for Party Discipline
The forum demanded stricter enforcement of PDP disciplinary measures. State chapters must sanction members who threaten party unity. Their communique emphasized this critical priority.
“All chapters should invoke constitutional provisions against erring members. We must preserve PDP’s cohesion and collective interests,” the statement read.
Preparing for National Convention
With the national convention approaching, delegates were urged to prepare. The forum stressed transparent elections producing credible leaders. Internal democracy must guide the process.
Chairmen reaffirmed full support for Damagum’s National Working Committee. They committed to rebuilding public confidence in PDP. Their goal: strengthen the party for future elections.
“We pledge to work closely with national leadership. Our focus remains PDP’s unity, progress, and electoral success,” they concluded.
