The Forum of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) State Chairmen has reaffirmed its steadfast commitment. They declared their readiness to “soldier on”. This resolve comes despite facing what they describe as calculated pressures, orchestrated hostilities, and institutional oppressions.
The forum also pledged unwavering support for the new National Chairman, Kabiru Turaki (SAN). This pledge comes as the PDP transitions into a new leadership phase. The transition follows its recent Ibadan National Convention.
This commitment was detailed in a joint statement. It was signed by Tony Aziegbemi, the forum’s chairman and Edo State PDP Chairman. Twenty-five other state chairmen also endorsed the statement.
The statement hailed the newly inaugurated 20-member National Working Committee (NWC). They described it as a stabilising force. It is expected to guide the party through internal tensions and external pressures.
The forum firmly reiterated its stance. “We reaffirm our unshakeable resolve to soldier on,” they declared. This commitment stands “in the face of calculated pressures, orchestrated hostilities, and callous institutional oppressions.” Their goal is to “defend the enduring ideals of the Peoples Democratic Party.”
They further noted that Turaki’s leadership presents an opportunity. It allows for consolidation within the party’s national structure.
The forum also thanked the PDP Governors’ Forum. They specifically acknowledged Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde. Governor Makinde hosted the elective convention that produced the new NWC.
The statement conveyed “profound appreciation to His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde, Governor of Oyo State.” This was “for the seamless, well-organised, and successful hosting of the elective National Convention.”
Other governors also received commendation. They included Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum. Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), who chaired the Convention Organising Committee, was also praised. Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau) was commended too. These leaders coordinated party processes during a period of political uncertainty.
Dauda Lawal (Zamfara) and Ademola Adeleke (Osun) also had their roles highlighted. Their efforts contributed to maintaining party cohesion.
The PDP’s National Elective Convention took place in Ibadan. It ran from November 15 to 16. This convention produced a new NWC. This new body is expected to strengthen party operations across all states.
