Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed, has canceled the party’s scheduled national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State. This decision follows the Federal High Court’s recent judgment in Abuja.
Mohammed announced the suspension during a press briefing alongside National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu and National Working Committee members on Wednesday. The leadership confirmed receiving the Certified True Copy of Justice Omotosho’s ruling in Suit FHC/ABJ/CS/2120/2025.
“Our National Legal Adviser has provided a detailed opinion on the judgment’s implications,” stated Mohammed. “In commitment to due process, we’ve filed an appeal seeking judicial clarity for our party and Nigerian democracy.”
The chairman emphasized that proceeding with the Ibadan convention would violate the rule of law during the pending appeal. The Independent National Electoral Commission, previously involved in the suit, received formal notification of the convention’s suspension.
Addressing Oyo Court Order
Mohammed addressed a recent ex-parte order from an Oyo State High Court, noting that such interim directives cannot override the Federal High Court’s judgment. “We act only according to valid judicial authority and Nigeria’s Constitution,” he affirmed.
The PDP leadership maintains the convention suspension will continue until the Court of Appeal provides further interpretation. This ensures compliance with Nigeria’s legal framework while protecting party interests.
