Ini Ememobong is the National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He has declared that no faction exists within the party.
Ememobong stated that Samuel Anyanwu, described as a factional member, lacks the authority to convene a meeting. Such a meeting, he argued, could not legitimately take action against Umar Damagun, the PDP’s former National President.
Legitimacy Flows from the Grassroots
Ememobong explained, “Party legitimacy flows from the grassroots upwards.” He added, “This is why it is inaccurate to claim a faction exists.”
He clarified that only a few individuals are unhappy with the current operations. Ememobong emphasized that this aligns with democratic principles. In a democracy, the majority’s will prevails, while the minority retains its voice.
Ememobong challenged the authority of Samuel Anyanwu. He questioned on what basis Anyanwu could convene a meeting to remove Damagun. “He simply falls flat in the face when asked,” Ememobong asserted.
He further pointed out that party staff are accountable to the state chairman. Similarly, ex-officials, elected much earlier, also operate under the state chairman’s control.
