PDP Holds Crucial National Convention in Ibadan
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) conducted its national convention at Adamasingba Stadium in Ibadan. Approximately 3,000 accredited delegates participated. They elected 20 new National Working Committee members after hours of voting.
Leadership Transition and Voting Process
Kabiru Tanimu Turaki emerged as National Chairman. His election followed the withdrawal of Lado Danmarke. Danmarke received 275 votes despite pulling out. The party implemented zoning arrangements. Presidential ticket went to the South while chairmanship went to the North.
North-West stakeholders endorsed Turaki as consensus candidate. Legal challenges arose before the convention. A Nyesom Wike-backed faction sought court orders to halt proceedings. However, an Oyo State High Court permitted the convention to proceed.
