The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has restated that National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu, National Organising Secretary Umar Bature, and National Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade remain suspended for anti-party activities and gross misconduct. The party simultaneously rejected claims that Abdulrahman Mohammed, its North Central Vice Chairman, is the acting National Chairman.
In an official statement, the PDP dismissed Mohammed as an “impostor and illegitimate claimant” while affirming its preparation for the National Elective Convention scheduled for November 15-16 in Ibadan, Oyo State. This stance reinforces the party’s commitment to constitutional discipline amid internal challenges.
The suspensions, initially imposed on November 1, 2025, followed an emergency National Working Committee meeting. They cite violations of Sections 57(3), 58(1), and 59(1) of the PDP Constitution regarding actions detrimental to the party. The sanctions include Deputy National Legal Adviser Okechukwu Osuoha and remain effective for one month pending review by the National Disciplinary Committee.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has received formal notification of these decisions, which the electoral body has acknowledged. The PDP emphasized that Ambassador Umar Damagum continues to lead an “indivisible” National Working Committee, with 14 of 17 members supporting his leadership.
The statement condemned suspended members and Mohammed as “illegitimate actors” allegedly influenced by personal ambitions and external forces. The party has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police to investigate recent violent incidents related to the leadership dispute.
