Udenta O. Udenta, a founding National Secretary of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), blames the Nigerian Police for the recent crisis. This crisis plagues the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
His accusation follows a significant clash between two rival factions of the party.
Speaking on Arise Television on Thursday, Udenta firmly stated his position. He asserted that the Nigerian Police enabled the factional occupation of the PDP National Secretariat.
Udenta detailed how Tanimu Turaki SAN’s son, the new party chairman, reported a planned secretariat takeover. He had informed the police about this.
Police officials, he noted, had assured them that no such incident would occur. However, this assurance was contradicted by subsequent events.
The Anyanwu faction, Udenta explained, gained entry to the secretariat at 5:00 am. Police officers reportedly observed this takeover without intervention.
Udenta labelled the police “complicit” in the unfolding drama. He argued that the nation would not have witnessed such a spectacle. This would be true if the police had initially secured the premises.
He also highlighted the excessive use of force. Over 200 canisters of tear gas were reportedly fired. This targeted sitting governors, former governors, and other party leaders.
Udenta recalled the tragic incident involving Chiroma in Kano years ago. Chiroma, he stated, did not survive tear gas exposure. He added that a specific Deputy Commissioner of Police supervised these actions.
