The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faces heightened internal crisis as a faction supporting Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike suspended Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum and five other National Working Committee members.
Announcing the decision in Abuja on Saturday, PDP National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu revealed the factional NWC appointed Mohammed Abdulrahman as Acting National Chairman. Abdulrahman previously served as National Vice Chairman for the North Central zone.
Suspended Officials Face Disciplinary Action
Anyanwu detailed the suspensions before journalists. “We suspended National Chairman Ambassador Umar Damagum for incompetence and financial misconduct,” he stated. “He also showed disregard for court judgments.” Damagum received a one-month suspension pending investigation by the party’s Disciplinary Committee.
The faction similarly suspended National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba. Officials cited unauthorized public statements as grounds. Deputy National Vice Chairman (South) Taofeek Arapaja also faced suspension.
National Financial Secretary Daniel Woyenguikoro was suspended over alleged financial misconduct. The sanctions extended to National Youth Leader Sulaiman Kadade and Deputy National Secretary Setonji Koshoedo.
All suspended officials must appear before the Disciplinary Committee. They face possible expulsion if unable to justify their actions. This development marks a significant escalation in the PDP’s ongoing leadership crisis.
