Former PDP National Vice Chairman (South-West) Eddy Olafeso claims opponents aim to destroy Nigeria’s main opposition party. His statement comes amid controversy surrounding the PDP National Convention. The event was scheduled for November 15-16 in Ibadan.
Olafeso’s Warning of Political Sabotage
Olafeso revealed an alleged plot to establish a one-party state in Nigeria. He stated committed PDP members remain determined to advance. “They have tried every way to push PDP aside,” Olafeso declared. “But our party will continue fighting and prevail.”
The former leader criticized deliberate obstruction of the convention. “They want the party dead,” he asserted. “Many committed members still want progress.” Olafeso emphasized PDP’s constitutional resolution mechanisms. He referenced the National Working Committee and Board of Trustees.
Court Order Halts Convention
A Federal High Court in Abuja suspended the convention. Justice Peter Lifu issued the ruling on Friday. The court mandated postponement until former Jigawa Governor Sule Lamido participates.
Justice Lifu ruled Lamido was unfairly barred from the chairmanship race. Evidence showed nomination form denial violated PDP’s constitution. The judge stressed parties must ensure equal opportunities.
“Political parties must create service opportunities for members,” Lifu stated. He emphasized the need for deliberate inclusion measures. The ruling demands level playing fields for all aspirants.
