The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly criticized the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and his allies. This criticism follows their inauguration of a factional Caretaker Committee. The committee was formed to lead the opposition party.
This controversial decision reportedly took place at the 104th NEC meeting of the party. It was held in Abuja on Sunday, December 7, 2025. The 13-member Caretaker Committee is led by Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed as Chairman and Senator Samuel Anyanwu as Secretary.
PDP Labels Wike’s Group “Friends,” Not Legitimate Party Organs
Reacting in a statement issued Monday night, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, dismissed the gathering. He referred to it as merely “Nyesom Wike and his friends.”
Ememobong’s statement clarified the party’s position. He said the purported committee was designed to coordinate personal political affairs. It would have passed unnoticed, like its “drab audience.” However, he noted they falsely used the PDP’s name. The party had previously expelled Wike and his associates, he stated. Certificates served as proof of their expulsion.
He emphasized that Wike’s group clearly lacks the authority for such an action. This is true even if they were still party members. Ememobong affirmed that all official party organs remain intact. The National Executive Committee (NEC) and the Board of Trustees (BOT) are legitimate. They operate under the leadership of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN.
These leaders are “dignified individuals.” They “cannot be procured or commodified.” Such methods have become the “signature modus operandi” of this group of former members, he added.
Court Contempt Allegations Surface
The PDP spokesman also highlighted legal issues. Minister Wike, through his agents Alhaji Mohammed Abdulrahman and Senator Sam Anyanwu, filed a suit. This occurred on November 21, 2025, at the Federal High Court, Abuja. Honourable Justice J.O. Abdulmalik presided over the case. The suit sought to nullify the PDP Convention and its outcomes.
Their application for an interim injunction was refused. The court cautioned all parties. They were warned against actions that could undermine its eventual judgment. By announcing a “fictitious National Caretaker Committee,” Wike’s faction acted in “clear contempt of court.” Their actions also “fundamentally altered the status” of the plaintiffs in that suit.
Wike’s Actions Called “Tool” for Ruling Party
Ememobong further stated this “latest drama” deepens an “illegality.” This began in 2023. The move aims to politically incapacitate the PDP. It seeks to obstruct its role as Nigeria’s main opposition party. He described their actions as “absurdity.” This has now become a “full-fledged tool” for the ruling party. He called Wike’s group “APC apologists.”
He concluded by reassuring party members and the nation. The PDP “remains firmly on a path of rebirth.” This path is “anchored on transparency, equity, honesty, and inclusiveness.”
