A prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Okechukwu Osohua, has strongly condemned the “certificate of expulsion.” He described the document, issued to certain party members by a rival faction, as “lawless.”
Osohua voiced his concerns on Tuesday. He spoke during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily. He challenged the legal backing for these certificates. Such actions, he insisted, are “strange to the law.”
He posed a rhetorical question. Did the party issue an “entrance certificate” to members upon registration? This, he implied, would be needed to justify an “expulsion certificate.”
“A certificate of expulsion is unknown to me,” Osohua stated. “This is the first time I am hearing it.”
He further questioned those responsible for issuing the certificates. “Where did they derive it from?” he asked. “Which law supports this? Any action must be guided by a statute or law.”
“When somebody joined this political party, did you issue them a certificate of entrance?” he queried. “This would then warrant such an expulsion certificate? I have not heard it.”
“I have been in politics for a while,” Osohua added. “I have not heard that you expel somebody and they receive a certificate of expulsion.”
Challenging the PDP Convention
Osohua also discussed the PDP National Convention held on November 15 and 16. During this event, decisions were made to expel several members. These included prominent figures like Nyesom Wike and Ayo Fayose. Osohua dismissed the convention outright. He called it “a gathering of friends.” He even likened it to “a Christmas carol.”
“As far as I’m concerned,” he declared, “it was just a gathering of friends. I can even call it a Christmas Carol. It was not known to law; there was no convention.”
Ultimately, Osohua asserted that “selfish interest” was the driving force behind these expulsions.
