Emmanuel Ogidi is a prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He has squarely blamed the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Ogidi states the APC is behind the ongoing crisis within the opposition party.
This comes amid recent internal strife. Former party spokesman Kola Ologbondiyan recently resigned.
Ogidi Alleges Threat to Democracy
Mr. Ogidi serves as caretaker chairman for the PDP in the South-South geopolitical zone. He spoke on Channels Television’s “Politics Today” programme on Monday. During the show, he made a grave accusation. “We are fighting a system that is trying to destroy democracy,” Ogidi declared. He firmly believes the PDP is “the face of the opposition.” He also asserts that the party “stands for democracy.” This highlights its crucial role in safeguarding national democratic values.Optimism for 2027 Elections
Despite its internal challenges, Ogidi expressed confidence. He sees a positive future for the party. He remains optimistic about overcoming current hurdles. The PDP aims to reclaim power from the APC. This is targeted for the 2027 general elections.PDP Consolidates Leadership Post-Convention
Key leadership blocs of the PDP are uniting. They are rallying behind the newly elected National Working Committee (NWC). Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN) now leads this committee. This move follows the party’s 2025 National Convention in Ibadan. A series of high-level solidarity meetings are planned in Abuja. These gatherings aim to demonstrate unity. They will also consolidate the party’s stance.Strategic Engagement Meetings Scheduled
The National Organizing Secretary, Theophilus Dakas Shan, issued a statement. It confirmed the mobilization of various party structures. These include PDP State Chairmen and National Assembly Caucuses. Both Senate and House of Representatives members are involved. National Ex-Officio members are also part of this effort. Forums of former governors, ministers, and past NWC officials have also joined. The party announced a schedule for strategic engagements. These meetings are designed to stabilize the party. They will also chart a clear new direction for the opposition movement. Key meetings are slated as follows:- The NWC will meet separately with PDP state chairmen on Wednesday.
