Prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain Alhaji Sani Adamu Yarin Fika has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Yobe State. He declared the state’s opposition effectively “dead” following his move.
Governor Mai Mala Buni’s media office confirmed the defection in an official statement. Adamu cited the governor’s development efforts as his motivation for switching parties.
“I was drawn to APC by Governor Buni’s commitment to state development. Opposition in Yobe is finished,” Adamu stated.
The former PDP strongman pledged support for Buni’s administration. He claimed supporters across Yobe’s Zone B senatorial district joined his defection.
APC Chairman Mohammed Gadaka welcomed the move as significant. “We value this defection,” Gadaka affirmed. “New members receive full integration and equal opportunities.”
Governor Buni personally received Adamu and his supporters. He emphasized equal standing for all APC members regardless of entry time.
“Your membership equals that of every party member. This strengthens APC in Potiskum, Zone B, and statewide,” Governor Buni declared.
Analysts view the defection as consolidating APC’s dominance. It signals shrinking opposition influence in Nigeria’s northeast political landscape.
