The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed President Bola Tinubu’s decision to cancel scheduled visits to South Africa and Angola as a superficial response to Nigeria’s escalating security challenges.
The opposition party maintains that scrapping foreign trips fails to address the worsening insecurity across the nation. PDP National Publicity Secretary Ini Ememobong described the move as a symbolic gesture during a Thursday statement.
Ememobong characterized the cancellation as tokenism. He argued it creates an appearance of concern without tackling the root security crisis. The PDP demanded concrete action instead.
“If the APC-led Presidency disagrees, we challenge President Tinubu to temporarily relocate to Kebbi State,” Ememobong stated. He also urged presence in other conflict zones across Northern Nigeria.
According to the PDP, such relocation would compel security forces to respond more decisively. It would also boost morale among frontline troops combating armed groups.
The party emphasized Tinubu’s role as Commander-in-Chief during crisis. “He must not remain in presidential comfort while 25 abducted schoolgirls remain missing,” Ememobong added.
PDP linked recent attacks in Kwara State to Nigerians’ daily security fears. The opposition accused the administration of offering denials and empty promises instead of effective solutions.
