The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman, Kabiru Turaki, has confirmed Governor Ademola Adeleke remains a party member. He insisted Adeleke has not left the party. This refutes ongoing rumours.
Turaki spoke to reporters in Abuja. This followed a National Working Committee (NWC) meeting. He addressed trending reports of Adeleke’s resignation. However, the party has no official communication. The Osun State Governor has not informed them.
Adeleke’s Membership and 2026 Aspirations
Turaki highlighted Adeleke’s continued involvement. He added that Governor Adeleke is seeking the PDP ticket. He plans to contest the Osun 2026 governorship election. Adeleke is among the aspirants.
The NWC also reviewed Osun State congresses. They approved these congresses. They were held to select ad-hoc delegates.
“Primaries are currently underway,” Turaki stated. “Governor Adeleke’s name features prominently. He is an aspirant for the ticket.” Turaki emphasised the party’s foundation. “Our strength lies with the people, not elected officials,” he added. “That is why we are the People’s Party.”
Ambassadorial Nominations and Party Stance
Turaki also discussed ambassadorial nominations. President Bola Tinubu recently nominated former Governors Okezie Ikpeazu and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi. However, the PDP has no official communication on this. “We will consider it on its merit if they approach us,” Turaki said. “But for now, no communication has reached the party.”
Security Concerns Under APC Government
He then criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC) government. Turaki stated Nigerians are unsafe under their leadership. He called for a complete overhaul of the security system. “Nigerians live in perpetual fear,” he declared. “They are unsafe everywhere: on streets, at work, on farms, in markets, and at home. This situation must change.”
