The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected a leaked report from its reconciliation committee, stating the document does not represent the party’s official position.
A six-member panel created the report to mediate between rival PDP factions. This happened before the national elective convention starting in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Deep divisions split the PDP due to conflicting court orders. Acting National Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed leads one faction. National Chairman Umar Damagum heads the other. Damagum’s group has PDP Governors’ Forum backing. Mohammed’s faction receives support from FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
Ambassador Hassan Adamu chaired the reconciliation committee. Their report proposed convention suspension and a caretaker committee. Friday’s leak reportedly embarrassed the Adolphus Wabara-led BoT.
On Saturday, Wabara clarified the report remains unadopted. It does not reflect the Board’s stance.
“The Board of Trustees categorically dissociates from the purported Report. The content does not represent the official position. Having not been adopted, it cannot be regarded as the BoT’s stance.”
The BoT reaffirmed support for the November 15-16, 2025 convention in Ibadan. This event will elect new party leaders for the next four years.
The Supreme Court’s position guided this decision. It affirms political parties’ supremacy in internal affairs.
The Board dismissed caretaker committee proposals. It stressed the convention will proceed without court interference.
The statement concluded by urging members to remain focused. They should ensure the convention’s success.
