The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) claims Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara is “in love with his captor.” The party described his recent actions as a display of “conscious amnesia.”
This statement came from Ini Ememobong. He is the factional National Publicity Secretary of the PDP. Ememobong spoke on Channels Television on Thursday.
Ememobong expressed sympathy for Governor Fubara’s past experiences. However, he cautioned the governor. He advised against blaming the wrong party for his current troubles.
He recalled a past conversation. A journalist asked Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State about the party’s actions. Mohammed stated, “We need to allow him; he’s been through a lot.” He added that “they’ve been speaking.” Ememobong stressed that Fubara cannot blame others for his own decisions.
“We sympathise with Siminalayi Fubara,” Ememobong stated. “This situation clearly shows Stockholm syndrome.” He explained it as a captive falling in love with a captor. This makes Fubara unable to distinguish the real source of his problems.
“But we frown against that conscious amnesia,” he added. Ememobong criticised Fubara for selectively assigning blame. He insisted the governor knows the origin and continuation of his challenges.
“When he went to court about the issue of defection, he knew the truth,” Ememobong said. “He should be able to state that openly.”
Ememobong concluded that Fubara’s deflection raises questions. It makes one wonder if he is placing blame appropriately.
