Veteran Nollywood actor, Patrick Doyle, recently stated his preference for silence regarding his ex-wife, Ireti Doyle. He avoids speaking negatively about her.
During an appearance on TVC’s ‘Wake Up Nigeria’, Doyle was asked about their relationship. The actor explained that his “anointing” prevents him from speaking ill of anyone.
“If I have nothing nice to say, I prefer to remain silent,” he stated. “My anointing forbids me from speaking ill of anyone, living or dead.”
He expressed satisfaction that the “Doyle name has opened doors” for her. “She hasn’t disgraced the name,” he added. He is proud of her achievements in the industry and hopes her success continues.
Previous Comments on Surname Use
This statement follows previous comments made by Doyle in June. At that time, he alleged Ireti continued using his surname for relevance in Nollywood. He asserted, “I can never be defined by her.”
He stressed that his “body of work is too solid” for such a definition. He questioned the popularity of the “Doyle” name. He also pondered why she reverted to “Doyle” post-separation.
“Who made whom popular?” he asked. He noted the name existed before her emergence. “It is okay with me,” he concluded. “I do not have a problem with it.”
