Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, recently held a crucial meeting with the State Security Council. The aim was to review and implement new security measures. These actions will protect lives and property across the state. They specifically target both local and external threats.
Governor Adeleke Convenes Security Council
Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi presided over the meeting. All service commanders were present. Significant conclusions were reached during the session. These decisions will further secure Osun State. They aim to prevent infiltration by bandits and domestic criminals.
Deputy Governor Adewusi conveyed Governor Adeleke’s commendation to the service commanders. He expressed optimism about the ongoing security plan. This plan, he noted, will strengthen the safety of Osun residents. The council also urged the public to deepen partnership with security agencies. Citizens should share information and report suspicious activities in their areas.
Tackling Rising Political Violence
Meanwhile, Governor Adeleke also issued a strong warning against increasing political violence. He directed the Commissioner of Police to clamp down on political killings. This directive specifically targets Ijeshaland.
The governor appealed to the political class. He urged them to submit to the people’s will. He also asked them to avoid violence. Adeleke decried recent killings in Ilesa. He called on politicians to eschew thuggery and bloodshed.
“If truly our goal is to serve the people,” the governor stated, “we must focus on the ballot and free exercise of electoral choices by our people. I urge the Commissioner of Police to secure the affected areas and stop further killings.”
New Mobile Courts to Decongest Detention Facilities
In a related development, the state government has finalized plans to establish mobile courts. Eight magistrates will staff these courts. This initiative forms part of a new partnership. It involves the executive and judicial arms of government.
The mobile courts will address overnight criminal activities. They will also handle preliminary remand proceedings. Their work aims to decongest detention facilities. This process began with a letter from the Governor’s legal adviser, Nurudeen Kareem Esq. He wrote to the Chief Judge of Osun State. The letter called for the establishment of these courts. It seeks to resolve congestion crises across various law enforcement detention facilities.
Governor Adeleke affirmed his intervention is crucial. It aims to avert human rights violations. It also prevents security risks linked to congested cells. Furthermore, it ensures basic criminal justice procedures are maintained. This is important, especially while efforts continue to resolve the judicial workers’ strike.
