The political landscape in Osun State is witnessing a major shift. Moshood Adeoti, the former Secretary to the State Government (SSG), is at the centre of this realignment. He was a long-time ally of ex-Governor Rauf Aregbesola.
Reports indicate Adeoti has now withdrawn his allegiance from Aregbesola’s camp. He is reportedly considering a return to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Adeoti’s Departure from ADC
Adeoti’s decision follows his formal exit from the African Democratic Congress (ADC). He and Aregbesola’s faction recently joined the ADC. However, strong internal disagreements emerged.
The conflict arose over a rumoured plan. This plan involved handing the 2026 governorship ticket to Najeem Salam. Salam is the former Speaker of the State House of Assembly.
A History of Political Shifts
Adeoti’s current move marks his third major political affiliation shift since 2018. He first left the APC to contest the 2018 governorship election.
He ran on the platform of the African Democratic Party (ADP). He polled 49,745 votes in that election. He then returned to the APC in 2020. This was amidst a deepening feud between Aregbesola and his successor, Adegboyega Oyetola.
Ahead of the 2022 gubernatorial election, Adeoti once again aligned with Aregbesola. He emerged as Aregbesola’s preferred aspirant. Later, he joined Aregbesola and other loyalists in the ADC. This happened after their expulsion from the APC.
Wooed by APC, Snubbing PDP
Sources confirmed on Thursday that Adeoti may be heading back to the APC. Top leaders within the party are aggressively wooing him. This follows his exit from the ADC.
A source close to Adeoti confirmed the intense political jostling. “Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and associates of Governor Ademola Adeleke have been engaging our leader,” the source stated. “But I can confirm that he prefers APC. They are giving him close marking.”
The Secretary of the Osun State APC, Kamoru Alao, corroborated this development. He confirmed that negotiations are ongoing. “The party leadership is still talking with Adeoti,” Alao stated. “We are on course.”
Efforts to reach Adeoti for official confirmation were unsuccessful. He did not respond to calls or messages at the time of this report.
