The All Progressives Congress (APC) has completed its screening process. Nine aspirants are vying for the party’s ticket in the Osun State governorship primary election. This primary election is slated for December 13.
The screening committee is now expected to submit its report. This will be presented to the APC National Working Committee (NWC). The submission takes place today, by 11 a.m., at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
An appeal mechanism is also in place. Any petitions or objections arising from the screening will be addressed. A Screening Appeal Committee, chaired by Senator Tolu Odeniyi, is scheduled to sit this Saturday.
Aspirants Screened on Wednesday
Several prominent figures underwent screening on Wednesday. They included Senator Iyiola Omisore, a former deputy governor and ex-APC National Secretary. Also screened was development financier Babatunde Hareter Oralusi. Barrister Oyedotun Babayemi, a former PDP chieftain, was present. Dr. Akinade Akanmu Ogunbiyi, an insurance expert and businessman, also participated. Finally, Benedict Olugboyega Alabi, the immediate past deputy governor, completed his screening.
Aspirants Screened on Thursday
Thursday’s session saw more aspirants appear before the committee. Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, the immediate past Managing Director of the Nigeria Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), was screened. Legal practitioner Adegoke Rasheed Okiki Adekunle (SAN) also went through the process. Dr. (Mrs.) Mulikat Abiola Jimoh, a former lawmaker and the sole female aspirant, was part of this group. Additionally, Senator Babajide Omoworare, former Senate Committee Vice-Chairman on Federal Character and Intergovernmental Affairs, was screened.
Rigorous Process Confirmed
A committee member, speaking anonymously, confirmed the thoroughness of the process. The source stated that the exercise was rigorous. It strictly followed party rules and the Electoral Act.
“All nine aspirants presented their credentials,” the source revealed. “They were thoroughly grilled. This aligns with the party’s guidelines, constitution, and the Electoral Act.” The committee is now finalizing its report. It will be submitted to the NWC shortly.
