The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has declared that Governor Ademola Adeleke’s recent defection to the Accord Party will not alter his electoral prospects.
The party accused Governor Adeleke of abandoning the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its elected members. They cited “personal reasons” for his departure.
Adeleke’s exit from the PDP was anticipated, according to the APC. His departure was announced last week and formalised on Tuesday at the Government House in Osogbo.
The APC asserted that the governor’s decision to join a new party offers no real advantage. They claimed that residents have now discovered his “wobbling administration” operates through “deceit and subterfuge.”
This defection, the APC stated, does not amount to a genuine political realignment. They added that Adeleke had faced rejection from other political parties before eventually joining the Accord Party.
The party questioned: “If Adeleke’s governance truly brings pride, why was he rejected by parties he previously begged to accept him?”
The Accord Party, the APC noted, currently lacks national influence. They highlighted its absence of a single state governor or significant national recognition.
Lawal, an APC chieftain, stated the party welcomed Adeleke’s decision. He argued this move would make it easier for the APC to defeat him in the forthcoming governorship election.
