Senator Iyiola Omisore, a former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has issued a stern warning. He stated that the party faces potential defeat in the August 2026 Osun gubernatorial election. This outcome is likely if a strong candidate is not presented.
Omisore delivered this caution during recent consultations. These meetings took place on Wednesday in Osogbo and Olorunda local government areas.
He specifically urged the party to consider a candidate with prior experience in elective office. Such a candidate should contest the 2026 governorship race.
The influential APC chieftain also disclosed a significant development. He mentioned that various party stakeholders have encouraged him to run for the Osun governorship seat in 2026.
These stakeholders, he added, convinced him to join the race. Their goal is to challenge and overcome the incumbent’s perceived “ill-governance.”
Omisore emphasized his point directly. “If we fail to give a viable aspirant the ticket, we will certainly fail and lose,” he declared. “We must consider an aspirant who has held an elective position for the 2026 gubernatorial race.”
He continued, “The party ticket should not be left to an individual’s sole discretion. That path will make victory impossible.” Omisore concluded, “A state’s governorship must represent a collective consensus. It needs the broad support of all stakeholders.”
Omisore also issued a clear warning against favoritism. “The governorship seat should not be given based on friendship,” he stated. “You should not hire your friend for a job they cannot deliver.” He acknowledged, “All of us contesting this race are brothers.”
Finally, he appealed to party members. He urged them to support his ambition during the primary election. This primary is scheduled for December 13, 2025.
Omisore concluded by calling for action. “I charge all of us,” he said, “to troop out on December 13, 2025. Show your love by choosing me as the party’s candidate for the 2026 gubernatorial race.”
