The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly denied recent social media reports. These reports claimed the party had already selected a candidate for the upcoming 2026 Osun State governorship election.
Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, released a statement on Sunday. He labeled the circulating reports as false and misleading. Abdullahi emphasized that these claims did not originate from any official ADC communication channel.
“ADC does not hand-pick candidates,” Abdullahi affirmed. He further clarified, “No individual has been selected ahead of the primary process.”
Abdullahi explained that the party has already announced the official date for its Osun primaries. He reiterated ADC’s firm commitment to internal democracy and due process in all its selection activities.
He noted that the viral claims stemmed from unverified posts and publications. They are not traceable to any official ADC channel, he stated.
Abdullahi stressed that an aspirant could only be recognized as a candidate after the party’s authorized organs conduct the primaries. “Until primaries are conducted by the party’s authorized organs, no candidacy is valid or recognized,” he said.
The spokesperson assured all party members and the public of transparency. He promised that all aspirants would receive a free, fair, and level playing field. “We ask the public to disregard any and all such reports,” Abdullahi urged.
