The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended its governorship primaries. These primaries were initially set for December 2, 2025. The reason cited is a worsening leadership crisis at the national level.
Hon. Sunday Bisi, the State Chairman, announced this in Osogbo on Monday. He explained that internal turmoil within the national hierarchy prevents the conduct of necessary primary processes.
Governor Adeleke’s Eligibility Confirmed
Bisi first clarified Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke’s status. The Governor had met all requirements to participate in the primary election.
“His Excellency purchased and submitted the required forms on time,” Bisi stated. “He was screened, cleared without reservations, and received a Certificate of Clearance, following party procedures.”
National Crisis Halts Congresses
The chairman noted the crisis had worsened. This includes the “suspension and counter-suspension of key national officers.” This situation has crippled the party’s ability to hold ad-hoc ward and local government congresses. These congresses were scheduled for November 24 and 29.
“These congresses elect delegates for the primaries,” Bisi emphasized. He also mentioned that many disputes are now in courts nationwide. Without delegates, a proper primary election cannot be held, he added.
“Therefore, the PDP governorship primaries cannot proceed as scheduled,” the state chairman declared. These were planned for Tuesday, December 2, 2025. “This is now inevitable and unavoidable.”
Adeleke May Withdraw from Race
Bisi then made a significant revelation. Governor Adeleke might withdraw from the race if the crisis continues. He is the only aspirant who has bought and submitted nomination forms.
Bisi stated, “Information suggests Governor Ademola Adeleke may no longer wish to seek the PDP nomination. This is for the 2026 Osun Gubernatorial Election. This stance could change if INEC recognizes a resolution within its timeline.”
Efforts to Resolve Impasse
The PDP chairman, however, assured members that efforts are underway to resolve the impasse. “The party leadership, at both state and national levels, is working tirelessly,” he affirmed. “They aim to achieve a lawful, workable, and timely resolution to these challenges.”
Bisi concluded by saying the briefing demonstrated the party’s commitment to transparency. It also aimed to keep Osun residents informed.
