Segun Saiki, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, has publicly criticized Senator Adams Oshiomhole for distributing grinding machines, sewing machines, motorbikes, and cash as part of his constituency projects. Saiki questioned the practicality of gifting ₦100,000 in the current economy and accused Oshiomhole of hypocrisy, given his past criticisms of similar empowerment programs by other lawmakers.
Saiki stated, “Oshiomhole has swallowed what he had vomited by distributing grinding machines, motorbikes, sewing machines, and ₦100,000 as a constituency project. It’s like someone vomiting and swallowing it back. What can anyone buy with 100,000 in today’s economy? Oshiomhole only gave money to people who visited him.”
He reminded the public that Oshiomhole had previously criticized lawmakers for impoverishing citizens by distributing such items instead of focusing on more substantial projects. However, Oshiomhole’s media aide, Victor Oshioke, defended the senator, explaining that these distributions were complemented by more significant projects like the construction of classroom blocks and market stalls.
Oshioke emphasized that Oshiomhole’s approach was consistent with his earlier promises to focus on projects with long-term impact rather than short-term giveaways. He stated, “What Oshiomhole meant was that a senator should not be judged by sharing items but by enduring legacies and jobs created.”
