Olisa Metuh, former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has declared his forgiveness. He forgives all individuals involved in his alleged ₦400 million misappropriation case.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, Metuh firmly denied claims of any missing ₦400 million. This statement came ahead of his 60th birthday. He clarified that the funds were genuinely provided by the then-PDP government. They were not earmarked for campaigns or security operations.
Metuh stated, “As I approach 60, I have truly forgiven everyone. This includes those involved in the case, the judge, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.” He added, “I have also forgiven some media outlets. These were used for what I consider a media trial. All key actors and prosecutors are forgiven.”
Metuh expressed profound gratitude for his life. “If God forgives my sins and has granted me 60 years, despite challenges, why shouldn’t I forgive others?” he questioned. He emphasized to Nigerians, “There was no issue of ₦400 million missing anywhere.”
“The truth is, the money came directly from the previous PDP government,” Metuh explained. “It was available before the campaigns. It was not campaign money. It was also not for security purposes.”
Metuh revealed that evidence presented in court confirmed the funds were given to him. He led a team. This team included former PDP Board of Trustees chairman, Chief Tony Anenih. Other individuals from the Presidency, academia (including professors), and media also participated. “We maintained a clear track record,” he added. “And we submitted a comprehensive report.”
He recalled a conversation with current Senate President, Godswill Akpabio. Akpabio reportedly told him that the then-President was “shocked” by his report. The former President also commended his transparency.
Metuh also praised President Bola Tinubu’s administration. He described its posture as significantly more tolerant. “This current government differs considerably from the last,” Metuh observed. “The previous administration was excessively harsh on critics and opposition members. I am a survivor of that era.”
